Jack and Paul laid her down on the couch for a moment and the power surged back on throughout the trailer. Both men were wearing black face masks, black clothing, and latex gloves. The power coming back on startled them, and Paul rushed over to switch off the lights.

In the darkness, Jack lifted the thin little woman up and carried her out the back door while Paul took her purse and the suitcase with a blue dress and a few other items she had prepared in order to give the appearance of moving out. Paul knew it was unnecessary though, since when the rent wasn’t paid next month, the landlord would probably take her belongings and move another tenant in. There would be no inquiry or missing persons report for someone like her.

The two men closed Faye up in the trunk and got in their car as the rain came down even harder. The lightning crackled all around them. It was well after two in the morning as they drove through the trailer park and turned onto the main road.

A few seconds later, another car pulled out of the park and crept onto the same main road, following them but keeping a safe enough distance to not be discovered by the two men.
